  • The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) was incorporated in 1973, as a company set up to promote steel exports. SAIL has immensely contributed to the development of the Indian infrastructure, by supplying products for key sectors of the economy, like defense, railways, housing, roads and power. In line with the government’s National Steel Policy -2005, SAIL has embarked on a mammoth expansion and modernization plan that envisages increasing hot metal production capacity to over 26 million tons by the year 2010.

  • Salem Steel Plant as a branch of SAIL(www.sail.co.in), is also running a large modernization and expansion project. World Machinery Works succeeded in getting the order for a complex of three roll grinders (two machines model REX 400 CNC H for Z Mill - Sendzimir and one machine model RGC 1400 for Hot Rolling Mill). These three machines have been erected and commissioned in a very short time and their inauguration took place on the 13th of August, in presence of the President of the Steel Authority of India.

  • Roll grinders model REX, intended for grinding small size rolls, are characterized by the longitudinal feed being performed by the assembly composed of the top table, headstock, tailstock and steady rests along with the roll to be ground. The REX 400 CNC H model is used for grinding rolls of up to 450 mm diameter and 3000 mm length.

  • Roll grinders model RGC are characterized by the longitudinal motion being performed by the grinding wheel carriage. This model is used for grinding large size, heavy rolls. The model RGC 1400 CNC can grind rolls of up to 1400 mm diameter and 5000 mm length.

  • Both models REX and RGC delivered to Salem Steel Plant are equipped with automatic roll measuring systems and roll testing eddy current and ultrasonic systems.
